Your Friends at World Triathlon Corporation seem to have a problem with us. I received a nice letter from them about the race this weekend. It seems that they have decided the week of the race that they have a problem with what I call the race. If they can have the word iron or the word half registered I must submit to the law. That I have no problem with. In the letter they say they have some words that are registered and many others that are not. I guess that just means they can make it up as they go along because they can afford lawyers. The issue seems to be that they are timing their problems to directly do harm to small race directors and the athletes doing their races. A quick search on the internet will show that many races are naming themselves similar things to our race. It seems beneficial to World Triathlon Corporation in some way to wait until the week of these races to demand the race directors change the name of the races and to destroy all mentions of the previous name. This includes T-shirts, awards, etc. after they have already been purchased. There can be no other reason for this other than to do intentional harm to race directors. If not they could have contacted us 6 months ago. WTC races all sell out so there is no possible way we are doing them any financial harm, yet they go out of their way to do harm to the little guy. I spoke with the race director of a similar distance race in California today who has had the exact same experience, so the timing is not an isolated incident. As some of you know we also put on a race in September that is the same distance as the one they are putting on in Louisville. I of course will be changing the name of that event also. They have looked at the website, but have not mentioned that race yet. Must be getting that letter in September. For our race in September we charge over $150 less than WTC, give away prizes just as nice and do not have the sponsorships that they have. I can see why they need to go after me. Of course with one of their races there is always the chance to go to that island for a race. Not sure I can mention the name of the island. You do of course have to pay again for that race. Of course there is nothing I can do about this so I am only venting. Just keep in mind that WTC is having influence on the awards and shirts you will get this weekend.
