There is just a little over a week until Ironman Louisville. All the local athletes have been working hard for a year and it is all about to pay off. Good luck to everyone. I must admit that that I will be a little biased. I am rooting for the short blonde women. In the pro field I will be rooting for Heather Gollnick, who came to town a few weeks ago, did a few training events for local athletes, and competed in the Cardinal Harbour Triathlon. She was an impressive person. Heather won the race, but then again she is a pro. What was impressive is the way she presented herself. She dominated the race and showed her knowledge in clinics, but the rest of the time she was encouraging to everyone and just fun to be around. In the age groups is my favorite little blonde. Cynthia, my wife, will be competing for the second year. If you are in the race and are ahead of her starting the run, listen for her coming up behind you. You will always hear her before you see her. She will be the one having way to much fun for someone who has swam 1.2 miles and rode 112. I got the following from the volunteer coordinator for Ironman. If you are not competing come on out and volunteer. The Ford Ironman Louisville is upon us. Next week, we will be hosting over 2,000 athletes who will compete in the Ironman event. The desire is to make this event a success for each and every athletes who begins the race on Aug. 31st. But we have a problem. Right now, there are still HUNDREDS of volunteer spots that remain unfilled. Yes the event takes place on Labor Day Weekend. Yes the UK/UL football game is on race day. But for this event to be successful, we MUST have the proper amount of volunteers in place. Otherwise, it can become very dangerous, very quickly. We must step up and properly serve these athletes. If you are already a volunteer, THANK YOU. Please consider picking up another shift if at all possible. If you have yet to sign up as a volunteer, YOU ARE NEEDED. Please take a moment and look at the volunteer opportunities to see if ANY of them could possibly work into your schedule. Here's how to sign up to volunteer: 1. Go to this link: http://www.doitsports.com/volunteer2/jobs-by-date.tcl?event_id=155427 2. Check the box/boxes next to the shift(s) you would like to work. 3. Click "signup". 4. Fill out the form, agree to the waiver, and that's it!!! Some shifts that really need some attention... • Athlete Check-In on Thursday and Friday at the Galt House (both shifts on both days need help) • Morning Clothes Bag Collection on Sunday morning at Tumbleweed (4:30am-9:30am) • Morning Clothes Bag Retrieval on Sunday on Sunday at the Convention Center (both shifts need LOTS of help) • Course Marshals on Sunday out on the Bike and Run Course • Men's and Women's Changing Tents on Sunday at the Great Lawn (3p-6:30p shift) • Bike Catcher on Sunday at the Great Lawn (11:30a - 3p) • IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK AT A WATER STOP ON THE RUN COURSE, CONTACT ME DIRECTLY. And if you are a part of a group, or know of a group, that would like to volunteer, please contact me asap. There are donations available for non-profit 501(c)(3) groups that volunteer. THANK YOU!!! Now let's pull together and make this event the best it can be. |
