Race Reviews

Cardnial Harbour Triathlon

July 19, 2008

Prospect, Ky.

The race was in it’s 2nd year, bumping up from an Olympic distance to a half distance. The race

proved to be a success, a great training race for those to do IM Louisville, August 31, 2008.

Heather Gollnick, the pro winner of the last years IM Louisville, won the race overall. Christina

Stiles, an age grouper was second, she placed 7th in IM Louisville last year. Overall male was

Adam Jackson. Adam is a triathlon coach and many of his athletes particpated s well.

Bluegrass Bicycles in La Grange offered bike support an well as sponsoring the race. We are

thankful to them as well as Preston Chiropractic and Hammer Gel for their support. The weather

was hot, 94 degrees (miserable but perfect training for IM). The current was strong making

the swim difficult. The ride was nice with rolling hills through Jefferson, Oldham, and Henry

County. The club house after the race provided a great place to cool down and relax. Homemade

chicken salad, fruit, and cookies were great replenishing foods.

Special Note:

Heather deepened her fan base here in the area by providing encouragement to other athletes. After she finished her race she ran an extra 5 miles (to make her needed 18 for training for the day). She ran to the water stops and encouraged others not to give up. She told them they could make it and she would be at the finish line to see. And she did!!!

Kids for Kids Triathlon

August 3, 2008

Tom Sawyer Park

This was the first year for this event which had 2 races, one for the 7-10 year olds and the other for 11-14 years of age. The race was a combined effort of Train Smart, Physical Therapy Plus, and Headfirst Performance. A training clinic was offered prior to the race for kids interested. This race was a hugh success. There were 65 children that came to play!!! They swam in the pool, rode their bikes, then ran in the park. Music from the Disney Channel played while parents cheered their children on. All received metals, and munched on fruit at the end. We have a new wave of athletes, welcome!!!!

Special Note:

Many of the 11-14 year olds ran their hearts out. For children there is no holding back, five thrw up at the finish line and their parents were so proud!!!

Otter Creek Trail Marathon

Dec. 14, 2008

Otter Creek Park

This race is in it’s 5th year sponsored by Ken Combs Running Store. This race has had great reviews despite the years of bad weather. Last year rain came down hard and people played in mud puddles. Snow the year before. Each year has it’s own challenges which only make this race more appealing! Come and camp the night before and enjoyed homemade pasta, good conversations, and if we are in luck Larry and Dave will play their guitars!
